Abstract

1318344 Measuring Distance COBBSLATER INSTRUMENT CO Ltd 10 July 1970 [19 July 1969] 36438/69 Heading G1M A device for indicating strata separation in a mine roof comprises an achoring device 7 at the inner end of a bore in the roof and an indicating rod 6 depending from the device 7 and terminating below the roof level, the exposed length of rod 6 being a measure of strata separation between device 7 and the mine roof. A reference plate 10 may be provided at the mine roof and held in position by anchoring device 12 and tube 11. A cover 15 about the end of rod 6 may be provided. A tube 5 may be provided to surround and protect the indicating tube 6, an anchoring device 14 centering the tube 5 in the bore. The various parts of the device are made of plastics, the device being flexible to allow insertion into holes of greater depth than the mine roof height. An electrical contact may be arranged to give a warning signal.
