Abstract

[Also in Divisions F1 and F2] Means for converting to four-wheel drive a tractor having rear wheels 9, 10 driven by a hydrostatic motor 5 fed through conduits 6, 7 from an engine-driven pump 3 comprises a pair of hydraulic motors 16 which are attached to the front axle to drive the respective wheels thereon, and flexible pipes 28, 29 which are connected to the conduits 6, 7 to supply fluid in parallel to the motors 16. The rear wheels 9, 10 are driven from the motor 5 through differential gearing 8. The pump 3 and motor 5 are of adjustable swash-plate type. Each motor 16 includes a stub shaft 18 (Fig. 3, not shown), which is journalled in a housing (17) attached to the front axle in place of the original wheel carrier and carries a rotor (21) formed with axial cylinders containing pistons (22) bearing on a cam surface (23) in the housing (17). Grooves (24, 25) in the housing communicate in turn with the cylinders and are connected to the pipes (28, 29) by passages (26, 27).
