Abstract

1,189,945. Vehicle hydrostatic transmission arrangement. BRITISH MOTOR CORP. Ltd. 10 Jan., 1969 [20 Jan., 1968], No. 3153/68. Heading B7H. In a motor vehicle having an engine-driven pump delivering pressurized hydraulic fluid to hydrostatic motors 2 installed in at least one pair of coaxial steerable road wheels, each wheel has a motor carried by a swivel pin 4 which is mounted on the outer ends of upper and lower wheel control arms 9, 10 containing fluid flows ducts 22, which convey pressure fluid to and from the motor 2, the pressure fluid at the same time lubricating the suspension and steering bearings, the outer ends of the control arms being provided with trunnion bearings 7, 8 and provision being made to collect any fluid that leaks through the bearings 7, 8 and return it to a tank from which the pump is supplied. Pressure fluid entering the inner pivot of the upper control arm passes to the motor through passages 19, 22, 24, annular passages 25, 26, and passages 27, 28 and 29 to the motor and returns through passages 30 to 36 to the lower arm and thence to the tank. The bearings are provided with seals and associated leakage collecting chambers 58, 59, 66 and 42, 43 which communicate with passages 47 in the control arms and thence to the tank. Leakage from the motor passes through passages 62, 63 to the chamber 59.
