Abstract

1,071,387. Practice projectiles. KNAPSACK A.G. Aug. 7, 1964 [Aug. 7, 1963], No. 32207/64. Heading F3A. Practice ammunition comprises a projectile packed with materials which are finely divided into smooth ferro-alloy particles with passivated surfaces. The packing material is ferrosilicon which may be mixed with copper, nickel or lead and has a grain size between 0À044 mm. and 0À400 mm. and is packed to a density of between 4À0 and 7À0 g/cc.; it is prepared by atomizing a melt at 1200-1600‹ C. in steam, air or nitrogen pressurized up to 12 atmospheres, or by granulating processes or by grinding and superficial heating. In use 4 cm. polyethylene shells are packed to gross weights of 850 or 970 g.
