Abstract

A stable, edible, biologically active composition is prepared by incorporating the active material into ice-cream or sherbet ice at a temperature not substantially exceeding 0 DEG C. and lowering the temperature of the mixture by at least 10 DEG C. Numerous active materials are mentioned including vitamins, enzymes, hormones, muscular tissue, internal organs and glands, e.g. liver, kidney, heart, spleen, lung, pancreas, thyroid and pituitary. A comminuted bone material obtained from the bones of young calves, lambs and piglets by freeing the bone from cartilage and soft tissue and subjecting the coarsely comminuted bone to freezing at about -20 DEG C for 1-2 hours is specifically mentioned. It is stated to be useful in treating bone fractures and the like.
