Abstract

1,069,373. Friction clutches. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Dec. 16, 1965 [Dec, 29. 1964], No. 52654/64. Heading F2C. In a diaphragm spring friction clutch, wherein the ends of radially inwardly directed tongues 6 of a diaphragm spring 1 are held between crowned portions of an annular rib 7 of a thrust ring 2, transmitting thrust from a release bearing, and the outer edge of a Belleville washer 3, the inner edge of the Belleville washer is retained in an annular groove 10 in an annular extension 9 of the thrust ring 2. The thrust ring has projections 8 on the rib 7 engaging diaphragm spring slots 5 between the tongues 6. The thrust ring may be of cast iron or sintered material or a coined steel forging. The outer periphery of the thrust ring may be circular or, particularly to reduce or eliminate " squeal " when the ring is of sintered material, have peripheral flats.
