Abstract
The invention comprises liquid polythiopolymercaptan polymers having recurring hydrocarbon, oxahydrocarbon or thiahydrocarbon radicals linked by sulphur linkages, wherein at least some of the sulphur linkages contain more than two sulphur atoms and the average number of sulphur atoms in all of the linkages is from 1.6 to 5. The polymers are prepared by reacting elemental sulphur with liquid polythiomercaptan polymers having either or both monosulphide and disulphide linkages; the reaction may be carried out in the presence of an amine catalyst. The polymers cure upon exposure to the atmosphere; curing catalysts also may be used. Examples are given.
