Abstract
Hydrocarbon polymers having at their chain ends complex organometallic groups of Groups I and II or Groups I and III metals or atoms or metals of Group II or III, are treated, at -70 to +100 degrees C, with reagents capable of reacting with organometallic cpds. The process is suitable for synthesis of high molecular cpds. by polycondensation, based on the starting polymers. In contrast to prior art, the metals at the polymer chain ends may be metals other than alkali metals. The products have outstanding low temp. characteristics. The reagent may be an olefine oxide, CO2, O2, S or epichlorohydrin.
