Abstract

A polymerization catalyst comprises (1) a compound Ti(OR)4- nHaln and (2) a compound R3- mAlHalm, in which R represents alkyl or aryl groups, Hal represents halogen, n lies between 2.5 and 3.3, m lies between 0.7 and 1.3 and the molecular Al/Ti ratio is from 0.6 to 0.9. In the example, ethylene is polymerized in the presence of hydrogen with, as the catalyst, a mixture of diethyl aluminium chloride and n-propyl trichlorotitanate in petroleum ether solution. The reaction is terminated with n-propanol.
