Abstract

1,068,686. Printing apparatus; damping. ADDRESSOGRAPH - MULTIGRAPH CORPORATION. Nov. 18, 1963 [March 14, 1963], No. 45485/63. Heading B6C. Liquid such as damping liquid is supplied to the printing elements of a lithographic printing machine from an inverted bottle C through an open-topped receptacle 16, a flexible conduit 26, a fountain 30 and a roller train of which only one element 34 is shown. The receptacle 16, conduit 26 and fountain 30 form a readily removable unit the receptacle being attached to the machine frame by a U-shaped bracket 18 the lower limb of which comprises spaced rails 56, 58 which slidably engage suitable grooves in the base of the receptacle. The upper limb of the bracket 18 has a circular hole 18a through which the neck 14 of the inverted bottle is inserted so that when the bottle is in position the neck extends into the receptacle to prevent the latter from being withdrawn along the rails 56, 58. The fountain 30 is releasably attached to the machine frame through manually releasable spring-loaded pins engaging recesses in the frame, and lugs 39 on the frame which co-operate with open-ended fountain slots 37. The bottle neck 14 incorporates a spring-loaded valve normally biased to the closed position. On insertion of the inverted bottle through a circular opening 18a in the upper limb of the bracket 18 a plunger projecting from the neck is pushed inwardly on engagement with the floor 16a of the receptacle such that the valve is opened and liquid flows from the bottle. To empty the receptacle, conduit and fountain, the bottle C is first removed, the valve in the bottle automatically closing as the plunger is released and then the receptacle is slidably removed from the bracket 18 and inverted into position D. The container, receptacle, conduit and fountain may be used to supply cleaning liquid to the printing elements of the machine.
