Abstract

1,068,423. Bearings. GEORGE ANGUS & CO. Ltd. Jan. 28, 1966 [Feb. 3, 1965], No. 4656/65. Heading F2A. An annular bush for positioning between a pair of coaxial members, such as a tube and shaft, has on its external surface an axiallyspaced pair of narrow, cylindrical lands (12), Figs. 1, 2 and 3 (not shown), by which the bush contacts the tube and has on its internal surface an axially-spaced pair of narrow, cylindrical lands (14) by which the bush contacts the shaft, the axial-spacing of the lands (14) being less than the axial-spacing of the lands (12). The lands (12) are separated by a channel (13), the lands (14) are separated by a channel (15) and frustoconical surfaces (16) connect the lands (14) to the ends of the bush. The bush may be made of elastomeric material, such as polyurethane; may have lubricant provided between the lands (14); may be an interference fit in a steering column without substantially reducing the diameter of the lands (14); and may be provided with a pair of diametrically-opposite external bosses (11) which are received in the steering column.
