Abstract

1,067,642. Catalytic burners. SOC. NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE. June 19, 1964 [June 21, 1963], No. 25464/64. Heading F4T. A burner has one or more catalytic members 10 in the vicinity of, and external to, the orifice 11 in nozzle 5 to be contacted by the flame emanating from the orifice 11, the catalytic members being of Ni, W, Co, Mo, Th, Ti, Pt, Ir, Rh, or of an alloy thereof or of an oxide or mixture of oxides of any such metals. Members 10 are the ends of platinum, platinum-irridium or platinum-rhodium wire 8 fastened to the nozzle 5 but they may be pellets, ball, small plates or wires. The nozzle may be a quartz tube or made of porcelain, cast or sintered alumina, or a glass having a high softening point. The catalytic members render the combustion of the constituents of the burning fluid complete.
