Abstract

1,067,123. Pure fluid amplifier. R.E. BOWLES. June 16, 1964 [June 17, 1963], No. 24813/64. Heading G3H. A pure fluid system comprises an amplifier 13 having a power jet 14 and control nozzles 15, 16 leading to an interaction chamber. The chamber comprises an end wall 24 and diverging side walls 25, 26. A flow divider 27 has surfaces 30, 31 forming passages 47, 48 with the side walls. Lateral ducts 41, 42 diverge from the passages and downstream sections 25a, 26a of the side walls are offset to increase the crosssectional area of the passages. When a control jet is applied through nozzle 15, the flow follows the direction of the arrows and the jet locks on at points B and D. A vortex V induces flow from passage 47 and flow is induced from duct 41. When the passage 48 is partially blocked by member 50, a vortex is formed at the entrance of duct 41 which may preclude flow from the duct, to the passage, and a vortex is formed at the outlet of passage 48. When the passage 48 is completely blocked, e.g., when passages 47, 48 are connected to the opposite ends of a piston cylinder device, flow takes place from the passage 48 to the duct 41.
