Abstract
1,066,762. Lockable latches. J. VOSS [trading as JOSEF. VOSS KOMM GES]. May 11, ,1964 [May 10, 1963], No. 19479/64. Heading E2A. A lockable latch comprises a latch bolt 2 selectively lockable in its slot or withdrawn position, latch operating knobs 9, 26 adapted to be positioned on opposite sides of a door, a turn button 8 for locking the latch bolt mounted coaxially of the knob 9, a cylinder cock mechanism 15 mounted coaxially of the other knob 26, the turnbutton 8 and the lock mechanism 15 being operatively connected together by a coupling 7 and the latch bolt being lockable by turning the turnbutton or cylinder lock mechanism in one direction and unlockable by turning the turnbutton or cylinder lock mechanism in the reverse direction. As described the coupling member 7 which is disposed between the tumbutton 8 and the lock cylinder 15, extends through a latch bolt slot 6 Fig. 6 which limits the operative movement of the latch bolt, and has at one end an arcuate projection 13 Fig. 7, extending over a circle quadrant which a semicircular extension 14 of the cylinder 15 actuates. In the embodiment shown the coupling member 7 is a flat sided pin and the slot 6 is dumbell shaped so that when the member 7 is in the position of Fig. 6 sliding of the latch bolt 2 is permitted whereas when the member 7 is rotated through 90 degrees the latch bolt 2, which is spring loaded, is held in either its extended or retracted position. Release of the latch bolt is effected either by rotating the turnbutton 8 through 90 degrees or by rotating the cylinder 15 through 90 degrees by means of a key 17. Withdrawal of the key being permitted after a backward idle rotation of 90 degrees. Rotation of the cylinder 15 is limited by a stop pin which engages a semi-circular annular groove therein. When the member 7 is in the position of Fig. 6 the latch bolt can be operated by rotation of a knob 9 having a pin 10 engaged in a slot 12 in the latch bolt, or by rotation of a knob 26 connected via a sleeve 22 to a pin 23 engaged in a slot 24 in the latch bolt. The lockable latch may be of plastics material and is adapted for right or left hand striking.
