Abstract

1,066,519. Fuelling reactors. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. Oct. 28, 1965 [Nov. 18, 1964], No. 45729/65. Addition to 953,298. Heading G6C. A lock-chamber 1 through which fuel element magazines are transferred between a storage chamber 2 situated above a chamber containing the reactor core (not shown) and an elevator leading to the atmosphere outside the reactor as disclosed in the parent Specification, is formed within the thickness of the concrete pressure vessel wall 3, the door 4 of the lock-chamber being movable within the chamber 2 to give communication between the chamber 2 and chamber 1. The door 4 is elliptical and pivotal through 90 degrees about a vertical shaft 7 between the open and closed positions. When the door is in its closed position a flap 5 is moved rectilinearly relatively to the remainder of the door by a jack 15 so that seals 18 on the door periphery abut an elliptic seating 17 at the end of the lock-chamber 1. In a modification (Figs. 4, 5, not shown), the door, instead of being pivotal, is moved along a rectilinear path between its open and closed positions.
