Abstract
1,066,190. Coating apparatus. RHEEM INTERNATIONAL Inc., Sept. 7, 1965 [Sept. 14, 1964], No. 38142/65. Heading B2L. [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for applying a particulate material (resinous or metallic powder) to the inner surface of an open-ended heated cylindrical body 40 so as to form a substantially uniform coating thereon, comprises an elongate bin 12 containing particulate material; an elongate trough 20 disposed in bin 12 so as to be filled with a predetermined amount of particulate material, the trough being slidable laterally from the bin 12 to within the body 40, means 70, 54, 42 for rotatably mounting cylindrical body 40 and means mounted on the trough so that the particulate material can fall by gravity upon the inner surface of the body 40. Particulate material is fed to the bin 12 from a hopper 14 and the trough 2 is preferably movable by hydraulic cylinder 30 and piston rod 32. A heater 60 with reflector 64 is provided to maintain the temperature of heated body 40 and a spur 50 on the trough engages a vibrator 56 when the trough is situated within body 40. The trough 20 is of V shape (Fig. 3 not shown) with a slotted opening 88 in the bottom of the V, the opening being closed by a slidable gate 100 and the gate being automatically opened when the trough is in its discharge position within the body 40. The opening 34 in bin 12 through which the trough 20 emerges has an upper edge 36 which acts to remove excess particulate material from the trough 20 as the latter emerges from the bin as that a pre-determined quantity of particulate material is carried by the trough to the body 40.
