Abstract

Graft copolymers are made which are the reaction products of a solution polymer of butadiene having a 1,2-addition structure of less than 10% and an unsaturated organic oil or derivative thereof, e.g. linseed, soya bean, olive, palm, maize, tung, cod liver, sperm and dehydrated castor oils, and oleic acid. The copolymers are made by heating the polymer and oil together at 50-350 DEG C., optionally in the presence of a solvent and a free radical catalyst, e.g. a peroxide. The butadiene polymer may be polybutadiene or a copolymer of butadiene with styrene, acrylonitrile or divinyl benzene. The products are used in coating applications, in mastic compositions of the type described in Specification 1,046,392, and as additives to rubbers and resins.
