Abstract

A liquid gelatine composition contains a compound of general formula <FORM:1066007/C3/1> wherein R is a C8 to C18 alkyl group and the sum of p and q is from 2 to 18. The additive is a wetting agent to ensure evenness of coating when the composition is coated upon a substrate (which may have an earlier coating thereon) and to assist even wetting by a subsequently-applied liquid such as a photographic developer. In examples, various compounds of the given formula are added to silver halide emulsions.
