Abstract
A soft pliable air pervious macrocellular irreversibly crushed body of polyurethane foam may be prepared by crushing a dry body of polyurethane foam irreversibly to reduce its original thickness to between 65 and 85% of its original thickness at an elevated temperature. The crushing is preferably effected at 300 DEG to 400 DEG F. by passing polyurethane foam between pressure rollers one of which is heated and which may be embossed. Suitable densities of the final foam are between 5 and 11.5 lbs./cu. ft. Polyester based foams are preferably used since in the main polyether based foams do not irreversibly crush.
