Abstract
1,065,154. Printing apparatus. THOMAS DE LA RUE ENGINEERING Ltd. Aug. 4, 1965 [Aug. 5, 1964], No. 31796/64. Heading B6C. The impression cylinder 18 of a rotary printing machine is mounted on a non-rotatable shaft 17 between sub-frames 7, Fig. 2 (not shown), and 8 which are pivotally mounted on stub shafts 3 and 4 on the main machine frames 1 and 2. The shaft 17 is mounted in the subframes through the interengagement of a squared portion at each end of the shaft with a similarly squared opening 16 in the associated sub-frame 7 or 8. Each opening 16 has a readily removable side piece 19 which facilitates easy removal of the shaft 17. Tripping of the impression cylinder is effected by a toggle mechanism 41 to 43 which is actuated by an hydraulic cylinder and piston arrangement 45. In a modified apparatus the toggle mechanism and hydraulic actuator is replaced by an hydraulic power cylinder arrangement acting directly between each sub-frame and the associated main frame. Axial displacement of the cylinder 17 is effected through the provision of convex protuberances at each end of the shaft which engage axially movable discs 39 in the main frames. Each disc is displaced by a bolt 38 threaded through the associated main frame.
