Abstract

1,065,149. Colour television tubes. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. Dec. 28, 1964 [Dec. 27, 1963], No. 52571/64. Heading H1D. In a photo-resist method of forming the phosphor screen of a colour cathode-ray tube of the shadow-mask type, wherein phosphor dots are formed by exposing the screen to light from a point source passing through a refractive medium and through the shadow mask, a movable blade is provided between the light source and mask and is so shaped and moved as to provide time-varying attenuation of the light reaching the screen, the attenuation decreasing from the centre of the screen towards its periphery, to compensate for greater light intensity at the centre, larger holes in the centre of the shadow mask and greater light intensity attenuation at the edge of the refractive medium. A known practice of providing a variable density filter coating on the lens for light intensity attenuation is referred to. The movable blade 58, which may be foraminated, may be of generally cardioidal shape, see also Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), and is mounted in a ring 69 which is both rotated and laterally oscillated by an eccentric drive wheel 83 engaging in a circumferential groove in ring 69, opposite spring- loaded idler wheels 99, 101.
