Abstract

1365178 Luminescent screens SONY CORP 21 Sept 1972 [21 Sept 1971] 43769/72 Heading H1D In the manufacture of a colour television screen by exposing a photo-resist through a shadow mask the apertures in which are smaller towards the edges, the sizes of the exposed areas are equalized by disposing the light source during the exposure at at least two positions which are displaced normal to the screen. The mask 13, Fig. 5, may be of the grid type, with elongate apertures 13a which are 0À13 mm. wide at the centre of the mask and 0À09 mm. wide at the edge, and the light source 16 may also be elongate parallel to the apertures and disposed at the two positions Z1 and Z2 for the exposure. At the centre of the screen the areas exposed from the two positions are much the same, whereas at the edges they are displaced and form a wider exposed area to compensate for the narrower mask aperture. The light source may be moved continuously or in two stages between positions Z1 and Z2, which may be 2 mm. apart. The lighthouse (Fig. 10, not shown) may include means for moving the light from Z1 to Z2, and also means for moving the light transversely to expose other areas of the screen for the deposition of other colour phosphors; it may also include a lens 14 and filter 15. The apertures in the mesh need not be continuous but may be interrupted by bridge portions adapted to reduce vibration (Fig. 11, not shown); if the light source is elongate, the exposed area will still be a continuous stripe.
