Abstract

In the making or grinding of a profile cutting tool, the tool as anode is fed at a uniform speed towards an electrically conductive profiled disc as cathode rotating with a peripheral direction of opposite sense to the tool feed, an electrolyte including abrasive grains being supplied to the point of machining. The tool material may be Si C, the electrolyte may be a solution of NaNO2 and thiourea, and the abrasive grains dispersed in the electrolyte are of Si C of 20 to 30 m diameter. Typically the applied voltage is 8 volts.
