A mangle comprises one or two driven rollers 1, 2 and an adjustable roller 3 which is held in contact with the driven roller or rollers by spring means, and when desired is disengaged therefrom by means of the rotation of said roller or rollers. The roller 3 is mounted in bearings 17 which are movable in recesses in side brackets 18 and are attached by means of adjustable rods 26 to levers 22 rigidly mounted on a shaft 20. Also rigidly mounted on this shaft'is an arm 28 which is pulled downward by a spring 42. Mounted on the free end of the arm 28 is an arm 29 having a notch 31 which is engageable with a pin 33 mounted eccentrically on a plate 32 attached to the shaft 4 of the roller 2. When it is desired to disengage roller 3, arm 29 is moved into the path of pin 33 so that the arm 28 is pulled upward against the spring 42 and forces upward the rods 26 supporting the roller 3. The engagement of arm 29 with pin 33 is effected by a push button 41 which moves arm 29 against a spring 35 through a pivoted lever 38, as the arm 28 is pulled up a spring 36 thereon actuates a micro-switch 37 to stop the motor and a spring catch 52 engages a recess 53 in the disc 32 to lock the rollers. To restore the roller 3 to operative position the button 41 is pressed again to move spring 36 away from micro-switch 37 to restart the motor whereupon pin 33 disengages from arm 29 and spring 42 pulls down arm 28. In a modified arrangement separate micro-switches are provided for stopping and starting the motor. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 831,172.
