Abstract
1,064,204. Electro-photographic processes. EASTMAN KODAK CO. May 22, 1964 [May 22, 1963], No.21174/64. Heading G2H. An imagewise electrostatic charge pattern is formed on an insulating layer 12, placed or coated on a photo-conductive layer 10 carried by or in contact with a conducting layer 11, by imagewise exposing the layer 10 to radiation which induces an imagewise conductivity pattern and applying a uniform unipolar electrostatic charge to the insulating layer while the imagewise conductivity pattern is present. In one Example (1) a photoconductive layer of zinc oxide in binder is coated on a paper support on an earthed metal plate. The zinc oxide layer is covered with a sheet of polyethylene terephthalate and uniformly charged from a fine wire at a negative potential and then exposed imagewise. The assembly is recharged, flooded with light uniformly, and developed by cascading with positively charged resinous toner particles carried by silica beads to produce a negative from a positive original. The developed image may be transferred to a receiving surface and fixed by heat or fixed by lacquering on the insulating sheet. In other Examples, (2) flooding with light was omitted, (3) initial Charging was omitted, and (4 and 5) the photo-conductive surface was charged and exposed before covering with insulating material.
