Abstract
1,064,184. Potentiometers. CLAROSTAT MFG. CO. Inc. Aug. 3, 1965 [Aug. 12, 1964], No. 33111/65. Heading H1S. A potentiometer has a contact member 60 movable along a helical resistance element 29 on rotation thereof by a contact carrier 61 which has a projecting portion 63<SP>1</SP> fitting into the helical track between the turns of the resistance element and rides on spring contact members 55, 56 on a collecting track 53<SP>111</SP>. If the shaft 43 is rotated after the contact carrier 61 reaches the end of its travel the projecting nose 63<SP>1</SP> rides up out of the track between the turns of the resistance element (Fig. 11, not shown). In another arrangement (Fig. 12, not shown) the shaft on which the grooved cylinder 28 carrying the resistance element 29 is mounted is driven through a friction connection (70), (75). The ends of the resistance element may be connected through slip rings 32, 33 and stationary members to contact springs 34, 36. Alternatively spring contact members (81), (82) (Fig. 14, not shown) may be carried by cylinder 28.
