Abstract

1,063,969. Box wrapping machines. FMC CORPORATION. July 1, 1964 [July 2, 1963], No. 27081/64. Heading B5D. In a box wrapping machine of the type comprising a vertically reciprocable form block F having upper and lower separable sections UF, MF, box stripping means 69 on the former assembly are reciprocated at a descending speed slower than that of the form block assembly, and means for causing interengagement between the upper form section UF and the box stripping means as the latter descends, causes the upper section UF to descend with the box stripping means, causing separation of the two sections UF. MF. during descent. The arrangement reduces impact upon engagement of the separating means. The form block and stripper assemblies are reciprocated from separate cam grooves on a roller 21, the linkage 51, 52 to the form block assembly having alternative pivot pin holes 52a, 52b, by use of which the plunger stroke 40 may be varied to suit different size boxes. The upper and lower sections UF, MF are normally held in engagement by a spring within the upper end of the plunger 40, until forced apart by the engagement of abutments 231, 68 at the appropriate time. A handle 255 operates a linkage for manually separating the form parts for cleaning &c. The side and end slides 80-83 carrying the box wrapping tools each have a control shaft driven through worm gearing and carrying cams for actuating said tools e.g. brush roller (89) corner lap plates (90), turn-in fingers (92) and presser blocks (94), Fig. 7 (not shown). The slides are mounted on slideways on which they are movable to suit various sizes of box, by linkages operated by handles (190-193), Fig. 9 (not shown), which are all placed together at one corner of the machine for convenience of adjustment.
