Abstract
106,295. MacDonald, A. E. April 14, 1916. With attachments for special purposes.-A mudshield comprises a projection which extends downwards from the rear circumference of the heel of a boot &c. and is so shaped that its lower margin is inclined towards the heel or coned towards an apex below the tread surface. The shield may be made of metal, leather, or rubber, but is preferably made of the latter material so that it will yield when it contacts with the ground. In one form, the shield A, Figs. 1 and 3, is hollow and is formed in one piece with a rubber band B. The shield extends round the curved surface of the heel, and, when in position, the point A<2>, Fig. 1, is drawn closer to the band B. The mud &c. thrown backwards by the heel is trapped in the recess A<1>. In another construction, Fig. 4, the shield is fitted into a recess in the side of the heel, and in yet another construction, it is made in one with the top lift of the heel. The shield may be made in one with a revoluble or fixed heel pad.
