Cooking and drying stoves; air-heating stoves.- Ovens and drying-chambers for baking food, for heating metal articles aftur varnishing, japanning, or lacquering, or for similar beating and drying operations, are built by superposing similar units or sections, thus forming an apparatus which may be heated by gas, oil or solid fuel in a bottom section. The doors and backs of the ovens being omitted, the structure forms a heater or store for warming air in or entering workshops etc.; the bottom of the oven may then serve as shelves for heating glue pots, food tins, or for similar heating and food-warming operations. Fig. 3 shows a section or unit consisting of a front wall 1, back 2, sides 3, 4, and bottoms 5, illustrated as broken away in order to show baffles 15 which may be fitted to form a sinuous flue beneath it. A series of such elements or units are superposed, as shown in Fig. 2, above a fire-box or burner chamber 9. The bottom section, containing an oven b, has a flue inlet a and an outlet 6a connected by a cap 12 to the inlet 6<c> of the flue c beneath the oven d. The gases are similarly conducted to the top section, which is covered by a flue 13 with an outlet 14. The front .wall 1 may have a hinged or sliding downward extension adapted to cover the oven below it, or each oven may have a door or pair of doors hinged to its side walls. The apertures 6, 7, Fig. 3, may be at the corners of the section as shown, or may be situated centrally in the walls of the flues. Large structures may be constructed by building two or more parallel vertical columns, the inlets 6, 7 of the flues in adjacent sections being arranged so as to communicate and form long flues under each horizontal range of ovens. Wide ovens may be subdivided by partitions running from back to front.
