' ANSELM NYE, 0F MARE'ITA, OHIO.
GAS OR VAPOR STOVE.
To all whom t may concern.'
citizen of the United States, residing at Marietta, in the county of Washington and State of Ghio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas or Vapor Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
rIhis invention relates to certain new and useful improvements on gas or vapor stoves and more particularly to the ovens therefor; the object being to provide a stove with a pair of superposed ovens each being provided with an independentlyT controlled burner whereby the lower or broiling oven can be utilized for a baking or roasting oven when the upper or baking oven is in operation. l
Another obj ect of my invention is to provide a stove with a pair of superposed ovens which can be used independently of each other; the same being so constructed that either oven can be used alone or both of the ovens can be used at the same time.
Another object of the invention is to .provide a stove in which each of the ovens is provided with an air inlet for supplying air to the burner and with an outlet communicating with a flue so as to cause the heat units to circulate through the oven.
VAnother and further object of the invention is to provide an oven in the form of a casing having a broiling pan adjustably mounted within the lower portion of the` casing forming'a top for the lower oven.
Another and further object Vof the invention is to provide a stove which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction, the grid over the lower burner being provided with a seat for a rectangular baffle plate and a seat for a circularbafile plate, either ione of which can be used in connection therewith so as to distribute the heat units in the lower oven.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings--Figure 1, is a side elevation of a stove showing the application of my improved construction of ovens thereto; Fig. 2, is a detail vertical enlarged section through the lower oven and a portion Patented Dec. 19, 1916.
Application sied January 27, 1916. serial No. 74,646.
of the upper oven; Fig. 3, is a horizontal section through the lower oven; and Fig. 45,' is a vertical section through the superposed ovens.
Like numerals of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
In the drawings, 1 indicates a support which l have shown in the form of a stove top having a suitable opening to receive a grid 2 which is provided with a rectangular seat 8 adapted to receive a rectangular baffle plate l; said grid having a circular opening in which can be arranged, a circular baflle plate 5, these baffles being interchangeable in their respective seats so as to allow either lof the baflies to be used in order to distribute the heat units, as will be later described. Mounted on the support 1`is a casing 6 provided with an enlarged portion 7 the opposite walls of said casing being provided with stepped portions 8 and 9; the stepped portions 9 forming supports for shelves 10. A bottom plate A isarranged within the casing at the junction of the enlarged portion and is provided with cutaway portions at its edges to allow the heat units arising from the burners to pass into A the baking oven.
VArranged on the supports formed by the stepped portions 8 is a broiling pan 11 forming a top for the broiling oven formed various positions in respect to the burners as will be hereinafter described.
The baking oven is provided with a suitable door 12 and the broiling oven with a door 13 having a series of air inlet openings 14 and 15 out of alinement for supplying' through the open-work of the stove top and the heat units escape from the broiling oven through outlets 20 formed in the back of the oven which communicate with a vertical flue formed to the rear of the casing 6; said flue having a vertical partition forming spaced Hues 21 and Z2 which are contracted 'by the casingG. It will be seen that this broiling pan can be inverted and moved into y at their upper ends and terminate in a thimble 23 to which an ordinary stove or smoke pipe can be connected for conveying the smoke and heat units out through the chimney in the ordinary manner.
The upper oven is provided with a series of outlet openings 2a communicating with the flue 2l so that the heat units after circulating through the oven pass into the flue and out of the stove pipe. Air is supplied to the upper burners 19 through the air inlet openings la vand l5 foi-ined in the door of the broiling oven and it will be seen by this construction that each burner is provided with a separate circulation for the heat units so that each oven can be used independently of the other. y lVhen both the upper and lower burners are in use, the broiling oven can be used to good advantage for baking and roasting purposes as the heat units from the upper burners 19 will be deflected from the bottom A against the broiling pan so as to form heating means for the top of the oven 'and as the heat units strike the baflies carried by the grid from the lower burner, I am vable to heat the lower oven in such a manner that anything placed therein will be roasted quickly and by inverting the broiling pan, the same can be used for broiling purposes.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that I have provided a stove with a broiling pan arranged within said lower oven under said upper burner forming aV top for the lower oven chamber, a burner arranged under the lower oven chamber each of said oven chambers being provided with an independent outlet opening coinmunicating with a flue.
2. A gas or vapor stove having a pair of superposed ovens each provided with an independently controlled burner, a broiling pan arranged in one of said ovens forming a top therefor, a plate arranged over the upper burner, each of said ovens being provided with an air inlet adjacent the bottom thereof and each of said ovens having an independent outlet'communicating with fines i formed to the rear of said oven.
3. A gas or vapor stove having a casing provided' with a division Plate forming a pair of superposed communicating oven chambers, each oven chamber having a door,
the lower door being provided with airinlets, a burner arranged under said plate suppliedvwith air by said air inlets, a broiling being provided with an independent outlet communicating with a flue.
4. A stove, comprising a support, a grid arranged within said support, detachable baiiles for said grid, a casing arranged on said support over said grid having stepped walls, a pan supported by said stepped walls, a plate dividing said casing into chambers, a burner arranged under said grid, anda burner arranged under said plate.
5. A stove, having superposed ovens formed from a casing provided with a division plate, a flue arranged tothe rear cf saidV ovens having a central partition forming parallel fines, said lues 'communieating respectively with said ovens, a door for each of said ovens, one of-sa-id doors being provided with air inlets.
6. In a stove, the combination with a pair of superposed ovens each having a burner, a divided flue arranged to the rear of said ovens forming parallel ilues communicating respectively with said ovens, Vdoors for said ovens, one of said doors being provided with a rseries of air inlets for supplying air to the upper burner.
7. A stove, comprising a support, a grid arranged on'said support, a casingV mounted on said support over said grid, interchangeable batlies carried by said grid, a plate arranged within said casing formingV superposed chambers, each of said chambers -being provided with an outlet, a door for each of said chambers,the door for the lower;
chamber being provided Vwith air inlets, 4a broiling pan arranged Vwithin the lower chamber, a burner arranged under said grid, and an inverted burner arranged between said broiling pan and plate. v
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses. ANSELM T. NYE. Witnesses:
