Capping. - A capel for winding, hoisting, or other ropes comprises wedges A, provided with an undulatory groove H, which are clamped on the rope B by bolts D, the wedges being secured in a tapered U-shaped member F by rings G. As an additional security, a conical socket E is secured on the end of the rope either by turning back the ends of the strands to form a rough cone, or by filling the socket with molten metal
