Abstract

Coupling.-The thimble A, Fig. 2, of a swivel or the like is formed at one end and at each side with a groove a, which branches into two grooves a<2>, one at each side of the hole a<3> for the swivel stem c or other connexion, the rope being divided into two parts b, which are passed round the grooves and re-spliced at b<2>. Two such thimbles connected by a common swivel stem may be employed. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the thimble is formed with a hole g, and the undivided rope B is passed round one groove a, through the hole, and round the other groove a, the end of the rope being then spliced at b<2>. In any of the thimbles described, the swivel stem may, as shown in Fig. 5, be provided with a nut or collar d secured by a cross-pin d<2>, and crossbars f may be provided over the grooves.
