Abstract

A valve unit enabling an engine to operate on a mixture of diesel fuel and liquefied gas, or diesel fuel alone comprises a casing 1 attached at 6 to an injection pump outlet so that a plunger 2 is actuated by the fuel delivered by the injection pump, liquefied gas being admitted to chamber 8 by a non-return valve 5 in which it mixes with diesel fuel which is forced past the plunger 2. The mixed fuel is forced by the plunger 2 through non-return valve 4 to an injector connected at 7. The plunger 2 is either a free fit in its bore, or is provided with a by-pass groove 10, through which the diesel fuel enters chamber 8. On its return the plunger 2 seats at 9 to prevent liquefied gas reaching the injection pump. If the engine is to operate on diesel fuel alone the inlet 5 is connected by a changeover valve to the injection pump to receive diesel fuel.
