Abstract
1,061,150. Variable-speed gear. INSTITUT INZHENEROV GEODEZII, AEROFOTOSJEMKI I KARTOGRAPH. Sept. 5, 1963, No. 35087/63. Heading F2D. A steplessly variable friction gear for a tractor, self-propelled vehicle, or conveyer drive, comprises a fixed, or rotatably driven (Fig. 3, not shown), drum 4, adjacent the inner surface of which is arranged a flexible ring 3 internally engaged by one or more planetary rollers 2 centrifugally movable on an arm fast with the driving shaft 1, the ring 3 being coupled at one or more points through a link 5 to a driven shaft 6, or direct to a stationary housing (Fig. 3, not shown). The arrangement is such that the driving shaft 1 acts through the planetary rollers to press and roll the band 3 around the inside of the drum to effect a stepdown ratio, the band 3 circumferentially flexing to automatically steplessly vary the ratio in response to output torque load from a given value to zero output with the driving shaft still operating. The flexible ring 3 may be of rubber, plastics, steel or laminated fabric.
