Metal-heating furnaces.-In a liquid-fuel furnace for heating bars in the manufacture of nuts and bolts, or for making forgings or stampings, an auxiliary blast of hot air is delivered to the furnace chamber in opposition to the flames from the burner. The burner 6 delivers into an antechamber 7 having a lighting hole 8. The auxiliary air blast is supplied through a nozzle 10 in line with the burner, and the products of combustion escape through a hole 3 in the cover, above which is arranged an air heater 15. In large furnaces burners are preferably arranged to deliver through both sides. The bars &c. to be heated are inserted through apertures 4 in the side walls.
