Abstract
Fibrous cellulosic material is rendered resistant to heat and oil decomposition products by impregnation with diglycolamine, optionally together with pentaerithritol. The product has a nitrogen content of 0.1-3%, it may comprise more than 1% of diglycolamine and more than 0.25% of pentaerithritol, and the ratio of diglycolamine to pentaerithritol in the product may be 1-5 to 1. The impregnant may be applied with or without a solvent. An aqueous solution may contain 0.5-10% of impregnant. It may be applied by immersion, spraying, brushing, or in a size press. The cellulosic material may be in the form of rayon, paper, cotton, or linen. Drying may be effected at room or elevated temperature.
