Abstract

1,060,619. Capacitors. PLESSEY-U.K. Ltd. Nov. 14, 1963 [Nov. 30, 1962], No. 45369/62. Heading HIM. In an electrolytic capacitor anode, a plain or surface etched and anodized aluminium foil 1 is rolled or pressed to have plural embossed areas of one surface 3, 4, and the foil is spirally wound about an aluminium connecting wire 2; the raised areas (which may protrude on both surfaces of the foil) serving to prevent contact between alternate layers while permitting passage of electrolyte. Alternatively the capacitor may comprise a stack of opposed electrodes having raised areas impressed thereon, immersed in electrolyte. The capacitor may have a solid electrolyte, e.g. manganese dioxide formed by pyrolysis of the nitrate, overlying the anodic oxide layer with cathode connection by conductive paint, sprayed metal, or collodial suspension, the assembly being encapsulated in synthetic resin or enclosed in a case.
