Abstract
51-Purine nucleotides are prepared from purine bases or nucleosides by cultivating a micro-organism belonging to Brevibacterium ammoniagenes in a medium containing (1) pantothenic acid or other substance convertible into coenzyme A and (2) thiamine or other substance convertible into thiamine pyrophosphate, or natural substances containing such compounds. In place of pantothenic acid itself there may be used calcium pantothenate, b -alamine, pantethine, coenzyme A, meat extract, liver extract, rice bran, molasses or fish solubles, and as sources of thiamine there may be used rice husk and bran, yeast extract or liver extract. Adenine or guanine requiring mutants of the micro-organism may be used, these substances then being inluded in the medium.
