Abstract

1,229,358. Nucleoside and nucleotide fermentation process. AJINOMOTO CO. Inc. 12 June, 1969 [20 June, 1968], No. 29928/69. Heading C2C. Nucleosides and nucleotides of the formula in which X represents hydrogen, hydroxyl, or amino and Y is hydrogen or -PO(OH) 2 , are obtained by aerobically culturing a strain of bacteria of the genus Corynebacterium or Brevibacterium capable of assimilating acetic acid on a medium containing acetic acid as the main carbon source, a nitrogen source and an organic nutrient. The culture medium may contain the conventional nitrogen sources and salts, the preferred nutrient being adenine. Fermentation is suitably effected at 25-40‹ C. under slightly acidic conditions. The required purine derivatives are recovered by conventional methods. Examples relate to the production of inosine, inosinic acid, guanosine and guanylic acid. Xanthosine and xanthylic acid may also be obtained.
