Abstract
1,060,381. Cathode ray tubes; cathode materials and processing. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON. Nov. 28, 1963 [Dec. 4, 1962]. No. 47043/63. Heading HID. An electrode forming part of a multi-electrode electrostatic focusing system as for instance in an image converter tube having a sealed envelope and a photocathode surface produced by evaporation-depositing of at least one metallic substance after the envelope is sealed, comprises an annular body having a transverse wall 2 with a central aperture 4 and movable shutters to seal the aperture, the shutters comprising a pair of symmetrically disposed members 7 pivoted about axes 8 and having part-circular portions 6. The electrode is inserted in the envelope with the aperture 4 sealed by the shutters and after the photocathode surface has been formed the shutters are opened by shaking or spinning the tube to cause the shutter members 7 to swing apart to their open positions in which they are retained by upstanding ends on spring latch 9. Guide plate 3 assists wall 2 in retaining the shutters in their correct plane. Around wall 2 is a wall 1 having a flange 30, and evaporators are located between this and plate 3. An evaporator for alkali metal consists of container 23 connected to wire 13 along which a current is passed to heat container 23 and evaporate the charge in it. An evaporator for antimony consists of a resistance wire 16 on which is a bead of antimony 31.
