Abstract

Water-soluble phthalocyanine dyes of the formula <FORM:1060086/C4-C5/1> wherein Pc is a copper, cobalt or nickel phthalocyanine nucleus, Y is -SO2CH2CH2OSO3H or -SO2CH=CH2 and m and n are each 1, 2 or 3, (m + n) being at most 4, are made by reducing a copper, cobalt or nickel phthalocyanine sulphochloride, reacting the sulphinic acid so obtained with ethylene oxide, esterifying the b -hydroxyethylsulphone derivative thus produced with sulphuric acid and, if desired, treating the ester with an alkali to obtain the vinyl sulphone. The invention further comprises phthalocyanines of the above formula but excluding copper phthalocyanine divinyl sulphone disulphonic acids. The dyes dye and print cellulose textile materials.
