Abstract
Glycidyl esters of cycloaliphatic polycarboxylic acids, the cycloaliphatic rings of which are free of epoxy groups, prepared by reacting the cycloaliphatic polycarboxylic acid with an epihalohydrin in the presence of a soluble sulphonium salt and/or a thioether and dehydrohalogenating with caustic alkali in at least one step, the first step being carried out in the presence of excess epihalohydrin and of the sulphonium salt and/or thioether, are cured with a cycloaliphatic polycarboxylic anhydride or a cycloaliphatic polyamine. The curable compositions may also contain fillers, pigments and accelerators. They are useful as coating compositions and as casting resins in the manufacture of electrical insulators.
