Abstract

1384038 Powder coating composition BAYER AG 29 June 1973 [30 June 1972] 31074/73 Heading C3B A curable pulverulent composition comprises: (I) a polyester containing free COOH groups, softening point 40-140‹ C. and acid no. 20- 150 derived from one or more polyhydric alcohols and one or more predominantly aromatic polycarboxylic acids; and (II) a polyglycidyl ester, average M.W. 200-1000 derived from aromatic and/or cycloaliphatic and/or aliphatic polycarboxylic acids. I may be a half ester obtained by reacting a hydroxyl group containing polyester with an aromatic or cycloaliphatic dicarboxylic acid, e.g. tetrahydrophthalic acid. II may be a diglycidyl ester of hexahydrophthalic acid. The amounts of I and II are such that 0À7-1À4 epoxide equivalents are present per carboxyl equivalent. The coatings, which may be applied by electrostatic spraying, may be cured by heating, e.g. at 150-220‹ C.
