Abstract

Thermosetting compositions comprise an epoxy resin having more than two oxirane groups per molecule and a hardener which is a halogenated polyphenol derived from diphenyl. The preferred halogenated polyphenols are those obtained by reacting decachlorodiphenyl with alkali. The epoxy resins specified are the polyglycidyl polyethers of polyhydric alcohols or phenols which may be mixed with a diglycidyl ether, and epoxidized polybutadiene and epoxidized fatty glycerides. Conventional hardeners for epoxy resins such as polycarboxylic acid anhydrides, amines, polyamides, polysulphides and BF3-amine complexes may also be present as may chlorinated paraffins. The compositions are useful for casting, laminating, paints or electrical sheathing.
