Abstract

1390716 Esters of trimellitic anhydride; curing epoxy resins MITSUBISHI DENKI KK 27 June 1973 [27 June 1972 4 July 1972] 30491/73 Headings C3R and C3B Polyalkyleneetherpolyol esters of trimellitic anhydride having the formula where R is polyalkyleneetherpolyol residue and n is 2 to 6, are obtained by heating polyalkyleneetherpolyols with trimellitic anhydride at 200‹ to 300‹ C. and distilling off water formed by the esterification. The products may be used to cure epoxy resins. In examples trimellitic anhydride is heated with polyethyleneglycols, polypropyleneglycols and polytetramethyleneglycols; the products are heated with the glycidylether of bisphenol A, diglycidyl hexahydrophthalate, #-methyldiglycidyl ester of bisphenol A, 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3,4- expoxycyclohexanecarboxylate and #-methyldiglycidylester of tetrahydrophthalic acid, to obtain cured resins, other ingredients of the mixtures being benzyldimethylamine, hexahydrophthalic anhydride and zinc octylate.
