Abstract

Metallic oxide catalyst pellets, for example cobalt oxide pellets, are prepared by a process comprising (a) dissolving one or more catalyst metals or difficulty reducible oxides of such metals in acid, for example nitric acid, (b) precipitating a basic metallic carbonate, (c) recovering the precipitate from the supernatant, (d) water-washing the precipitate, (e) heating the washed precipitate at a temperature between 300 DEG and 500 DEG C., (f) combining the resulting mixture of metallic oxides with from 1% to 5% by weight of graphite, (g) pelleting, (h) sintering the pellets at a temperature between 500 DEG and 1300 DEG C. The metals may be those of Group VIII, for example cobalt on nickel, Group IB or Group IIB; the difficulty reducible oxide may be an oxide of a Group VI metal. There is reference to addition of barium and silica to the solutions obtained in step (a).ALSO:Metallic oxide catalyst pellets, for example cobalt oxide pellets, are prepared by a process comprising (a) dissolving one or more catalyst metals or difficultly reducible oxides of such metals in acid, for example nitric acid (b) precipitating a basic metallic carbonate (c) recovering the precipitate from the supernatant (d) water-washing the precipitate (e) heating the washed precipitate at a temperature between 300 DEG and 500 DEG C (f) combining the resulting mixture of metallic oxides with from 1% to 5% by weight of graphite (g) pelleting (h) sintering the pellets at a temperature between 500 DEG C and 1300 DEG C. The metals may be those of Group VIII, for example cobalt or nickel, Group IB or Group IIB; the difficultly reducible oxide may be an oxide of a Group VI metal. There is reference to addition of barium and silica to the solutions obtained in step (a).
