Abstract

1,059,051. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 14, 1965, No. 20432/65. Heading H2B. A sealed magnetic contact device has its armature 12 biased by a leaf spring 15 and centrally rockable on a projection 18 of a magnetic channel-shaped member 16, 17, the sides 17 of which extend along the inner face of the glass container 1 to act as flux collectors for the armature. Member 16 is carried on a non- magnetic strip 8 which supports and stresses the biasing blade spring 15 and forms a backstop 11 for the armature 12. The strip 8 is butt welded to a magnetic terminal strip 3 which is sealed into the container 1. The fixed contact strip 2 is also provided with a channel-shaped magnetic member 9, 10 to act as a flux collector. The end of the contact strip 2 is curved about an axis normal to the axis of the strip (Fig. 4, not shown) and the contacting end of the armature has two curved surfaces perpendicular thereto (Fig. 5, not shown) providing double point contact. In manufacture the strips 2, 3 are one piece of magnetic material and a ring 27 is used to retain the parts during setting of contact gap and spring bias and whilst the container 1 is sealed. The ring 27 is then removed and the connecting part 26 of strips 2, 3 is also removed.
