Abstract

Brown disazo pigments of high fastness properties and of general formula <FORM:1058749/C4-C5/1> n which A is a residue of Formula II or III <FORM:1058749/C4-C5/2> <FORM:1058749/C4-C5/3> in which one X is a nitro group, the other is a trifluoromethyl group, Y is a hydrogen or halogen atom, one Z is chlorine, the other is a hydrogen atom, Z1 is a hydrogen or a halogen atom or an alkoxy group and R is a benzene residue are prepared by (a) condensing a diaminobenzene with a carboxylic acid halide of formula <FORM:1058749/C4-C5/4> or by diazotizing and coupling an amine A-NH2 with a compound of formula <FORM:1058749/C4-C5/5> A1 is an amine residue, or the dyes are prepared by diazotizing and coupling an amino A-NH2 with a compound of formula <FORM:1058749/C4-C5/6> in which R and Z1 are as above, in the presence of an agent that promotes coupling and with the use of a disintegrating agent to maintain the average product particle size below 5 m .ALSO:The invention provides brown disazo pigments of specified type (see Division C4) which are used for colouring various media. The media include nitrocellulose aminoplasts, alkyd resins, phenoplasts, polyolefines, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyacrylonitrile, casein, silicone and silicone resins. Example 4 comprises a foil prepared from polyvinyl chloride, dioctyl phthalate and pigment. Example 5 provides a lacquer comprising alkyd melamine stoving lacquer, titanium dioxide and pigment. Example 6 comprises a nitrocellulose lacquer containing titanium dioxide and pigment.
