Abstract

A stoving lacquer comprises a solution of coconut alkyd resin in xylene, melamine resin in butanol, titanium oxide, xylene, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether and a pigment obtained by diazotising 4-chloro -3- aminobenzoic acid -21, 31, 41-trichloranilide and coupling the product with 2-hydroxynaphthalene -3- carboxylic acid -21 methyl -41- methoxy-anilide. A polyvinyl chloride composition comprises dioctyl phthalate, dibutyl tin dilaurate, a sodium barium salt of an acid phosphoric alkyl ester, titanium oxide and the azo pigment obtained from 4-chloro -3- aminobenzoic acid-21, 41, 51-trichloranilide and 2-hydroxy-naphthalene -3- carboxylic acid -21-naphthylamide.ALSO:The invention comprises azo pigments containing 4 or 5 aromatically bound chlorine atoms in the residue of the diazo component of the general formula <FORM:0957647/C3/1> wherein X1, X2, X3, X4 and X5 independently of each other represent hydrogen or chlorine and Ar represents a possibly substituted radical of the benzene or naphthalene series and a process for the preparation thereof which comprises coupling a diazotized amine of the formula <FORM:0957647/C3/2> with a 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid arylamide. Preferably Ar is a benzene series radical and substituents mentioned include lower alkyl, aralkyl, lower alkoxy, phenoxy, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, lower carbalkoxy, N-substituted carbamyl or sulphamyl groups, the trifluoromethyl or nitro group. The pigments are employed in paints, nitro and stoving lacquers, for colouring viscose or cellulose acetate, polyethylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, rubber and paper pulp. Examples are furnished of the preparation of the pigments and their use in colouring, stoving lacquer and polyvinyl chloride resin (see Division C3).
