To prevent shocks and to equalize the torque transmitted through planet pinions 2b, the stationary ring gear 2c of a sun-ring planet train 2 is yieldably mounted in a housing 1 by lugs 3 thereon engaging recesses 7 in pistons 4, 5, the associated cylinders 8, 10 or 9, 11 of which, according to the direction of rotation of an input shaft 19, are supplied by a gear pump 16 with pressure fluid which opposes the reaction torque. A duct 6 through the piston 4 connects the cylinders 8, 9 through a one-way valve 21 to a vent 22 and tapered needles 12, 13 throttle the flow from the cylinders. An increase in the reaction torque moves the piston 4 axially, whereupon the throttling effect is increased and the pressure in the cylinder 8 or 9 opposing the reaction torque also increases. Hydro-pneumatic accumulators 14a, 15a absorb sudden pressure increases caused by rapid movement of the pistons 4, 5 in response to torque surges in the transmission and thus prevent shocks. The pump 16 is driven from an input shaft 19 fast with a sun gear 2a.
